The western suburbs of Melbourne are hotter and drier than the rest of Melbourne, and its communities have poorer health status than other parts of the city. Greening the West is exploring how to improve the climate, environment and health status of Melbourne’s west through increasing vegetation and tree canopy cover through its suburbs.

City West Water will collaborate with partners such as local councils, the Department of Health, industry and community groups to achieve a greener west. This important initiative endeavours to reduce the impact of urban heat islands, improve air quality and provide a greener environment to improve public amenity and community health. Lead West have recently received a grant from Vision for Werribee Plains to develop a strategy for the Werribee River corridor.

Consultants are currently being sought.   More information can be found on the  LeadWest website.

An exciting plan for a shared trail between Melton and Werribee is being proposed.

There have been two rounds of consultation with Councils and Stakeholders.
